Most gamers aren’t aware of the vast infrastructure of virtual machines and software that run their video game systems especially in the online and mobile gaming universe. Behind every MMORPG or mobile videogame lies a complex and expansive network to support these online and mobile games. Like the Wizard of Oz pulling levers behind the curtain, there are game development wizards continually working behind the scenes to maintain, enhance and develop video games. An upcoming Microsoft summit on July 1, 2013, in London, England, will explore Windows Azure as a Cloud Gaming Platform. Game developers, designers and video game architects are expected to attend the informal summit and to glean more knowledge about how Windows Azure offers cloud gaming PaaS (Platform as a Structure) technology to revamp existing online and mobile games as well as to utilize Azure for future game development. The online and mobile video game industry is a multi-billion dollar industry which continues to grow exponentially worldwide. The cloud is where this industry platform is moving. Taking video games to the cloud makes far more sense than tying colossal gaming systems and networks to a tradition platform service model.
